BIJOULED PRIVACY NOTICE
Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA) and Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 (PAIA). Last updated and effective 5 October 2026. This notice replaces the privacy policy last updated on 12 June 2023.
- Who we are
This notice is issued by Bijouled (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2018/550586/07, trading as Bijouled and Bijouled Designer Jewellery. We are the responsible party under POPIA.
Address: 18 Bedford Street, Clearwater Flyfishing Estate, Rietvalleirand, Pretoria, 0174. This address is for correspondence and online-store operations. There are no walk-in sales.

We sell sterling silver and stainless steel jewellery online, by direct communication, and at selected markets, and we ship in South Africa, including through The Courier Guy.
- Scope
This notice covers visitors to the website, customers and prospective customers, people who contact us or visit a market stall, marketing subscribers, and, where relevant, suppliers and job applicants. It does not cover third-party sites, social platforms, or payment pages we do not control.
“Personal information” and “processing” have the meanings in POPIA.
- What we collect, and where it comes from
From you: name, email, telephone, delivery and billing address, order and size details, gift messages, account login details if you create an account, payment status and transaction references, correspondence, marketing preferences, and any review, survey, or job-application content you send. We do not store full card numbers. The payment provider handles those.
A delivery address and contact number are necessary to perform a sale. Without them we cannot fulfil the order. Marketing consent and an account are voluntary.
Automatically: IP address, browser and device type, operating system, approximate location from the IP address, pages viewed, referring site, date and time, cookie identifiers, and security diagnostics.
From others: payment success or failure from the payment provider, tracking and proof of delivery from the courier, aggregated or pseudonymous analytics, and gift-recipient details supplied by the person placing the order. If you give us someone else’s information, you must be allowed to do so and must tell them.
We do not ask for special personal information (health, biometrics, race, religion, politics, union membership, sex life, or criminal behaviour) unless the law requires it. The site is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect a child’s information without a competent person’s consent, and we will delete it if we discover we have done so.
- Why we process it
Grounds under section 11: contract, legal duty, consent, legitimate interests that do not override your rights, and protection of your legitimate interests.
Uses: orders, payment, delivery, returns and quality queries, accounts, customer service, tax and accounting records, marketing where the law allows it, website improvement, relevant advertising, fraud prevention, and complaints or security incidents.
We do not sell or trade personal information, and we do not monitor private communications other than messages you send us, or where the law requires disclosure.
- Direct marketing
Electronic marketing is sent only as section 69 allows. We ask for consent before adding you to a marketing list, unless you are an existing customer, we are marketing our own similar products, we collected your details in a sale, and you could refuse at collection and in every later message. Every marketing message identifies Bijouled and includes an opt-out. Opting out does not stop order messages. Email info@bijouled.co.za or use the unsubscribe link.
- Who we share it with
Employees and contractors who need it; couriers, currently including The Courier Guy; payment providers; hosting, store, email, and backup providers; analytics and advertising providers such as Google and Meta where those tools are enabled; professional advisers; a buyer of the business, under confidentiality; and a court, SARS, the Information Regulator, or another body where the law requires it. Operators may use the information only on our instructions.
- Cross-border transfers
Records are stored in South Africa where practicable. Hosting, email, payment, analytics, and advertising providers may process information in another country. We do that only under section 72: similar legal protection, your consent, necessity for the contract, or another section 72 ground.
- Cookies, analytics, and remarketing
Strictly necessary cookies run the basket and checkout. Preference, analytics, and advertising cookies, including Google remarketing cookies, are used as described in the notice. Refusing necessary cookies may break checkout. Google ad settings are at https://adssettings.google.com.
- Security
We apply appropriate, reasonable technical and organisational measures under section 19. No internet transmission is completely secure. If we believe personal information has been accessed or acquired by an unauthorised person, we will notify the Information Regulator and affected data subjects under section 22, unless a public investigating body determines that notification would impede a criminal investigation.
- Retention
Order, invoice, and payment records are kept for at least five years for tax and company duties. Service correspondence is kept for the query and a reasonable dispute period. Marketing records are kept until you opt out, plus a short period to prove the opt-out. Logs are kept for a limited operational period. Information is then deleted, destroyed, or de-identified unless the law requires longer retention.
- Your rights
You may ask for confirmation that we hold your information, access or a description of it, the categories of recipients, correction, deletion where POPIA allows it, and a note of your objection if we disagree. You may object to legitimate-interest processing and to direct marketing. Email info@bijouled.co.za. We may require proof of identity. We may refuse where POPIA or PAIA allows it, with written reasons. We do not charge for a request or a correction. PAIA access fees may apply. The PAIA manual is available on request.

Information you post publicly can be seen by others. We are not responsible for third-party sites linked from the website, including courier tracking, payment pages, and social media.
- Changes
Updates will be posted on www.bijouled.co.za with a new effective date. Material changes will be drawn to customers’ attention where reasonably practicable.
